Fiido M1: The Best Electric Folding “Fat Bike” for less than 1000$?

Fat tire bikes are a bit difficult to get due to their incredibly high prices. Fiido has created an affordable fat tire bike at the cost of less than 1000$. Fiido is a new Shenzhen based company producing electric scooters, it’s there first fat tire electric bike. Considering the price and features the bike looks worth inspecting.

So here is the two months review of Fiido M1.

Fiido M1 – Price

Fiido M1 is an affordable fat tire electric bike only priced at 999$. The performance and endurance are satisfactory, while the design is almost the same as the Mate X.

Unboxing and Assembly

The khaki box is straightforward, but it weighs a lot; gross weight is 30 kilograms. The unboxing experience is basic in the box; we have Disassembled Bike, Assembly Guide, Start Key, Allen Keys and Fender.

The bike comes in three pieces the Front Tire, Handle Bar and Saddle. Firstly, the handlebar is pretty easy to assemble; make sure to tighten the handlebar firmly by included tools. Secondly, we have the front tire – pretty easy to place and release thanks to its QR mechanism. Lastly, we have the saddle, which is the easiest to assemble. Collectively the assembly will roughly take 30 minutes.

The brakes are not tuned so, make sure to adjust them finely for safety purpose.

Fiido M1 – Design and Construction

The bike’s design is beautiful; Fiido has done a great job of providing an exact copy of Matebike X. It has a beautiful matte black colour with a greenish accent on the frame. Now you don’t have to put the bike on the roof because M1 features an excellent foldable design that can fit right in your car’s trunk.

The design matches Matebike X, but the construction is not the same. Fiido M1 is a solid bike featuring a premium aluminium frame; but you might feel some cracking, but the body is pretty solid. Fat tires will not disappoint on mountains and rocky paths; they are strong and prevent punctures.

The bike has a couple of weak parts, i.e derailer and brakes, which can be replaced by Shimano Atlus derailer and Shimano MT 200 hydraulic brakes can provide Matebike X like performance.

Fiido M1 – Features

Fiido M1 is an affordable electric bike that can deliver a Matebike X like performance after some upgrades. Let’s talk about some prominent features of Fiido M1.

Firstly, the motor; it’s a 250W brushless motor with a 7-speed Shimano cassette, and on the front, we have a 52-tooth chainring. The range of gears is suitable for on and off-road usage. The motor is excellent and produces a reasonable speed of 25km/h. One drawback is unnatural power delivery as Fiido is using a cadence sensor instead of torque.

Then we have the shock absorbers. M1 is featuring a dual shock-absorbing system. The front fork has 55mm travel, and the rear Ke Zhen shock has 35mm travel. Both of them considerably smoothens the ride off the road.

Thirdly, we have the brakes. Fiido M1 has a dual mechanical disc brake system. Brakes are pretty noisy because Fiido has used metal pads instead of rubber. Moreover, the performance was not good, so I decided to replace the brakes with Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes. They are better performer and noiseless. For safety, it also has a headlight, rear reflector and a horn.

Now we have the handlebar, the one with the most functions. We have a Throttle, Gear shifter, Horn, LCD, Brakes, and headlight control on the handlebar. LCD is beautiful and bright; it displays speed, power mode and battery. The bike also has an odometer for distance measuring.

Lastly, the tires, Fiido is using unbranded 20×4 inches inflatable tires. Thick tires are perfect for off-roading and also enhances the comfortability of the bike.

Performance

Fiido M1 –Range

The 12.5Ah battery is pretty good; the range is satisfactory. With extreme off-road usage with 90kg weight, it can go up to 20km to 25km while the range exceeds up to 60km on paved roads. Fiido has mentioned a 100km range which is unobtainable.

Fiido M1 – Comfort

M1 provides a smooth and comfortable ride, thanks to its dual shock absorption and big fat tires. The front adjustable fork has 55mm travel, while the rear shock absorber has 35mm travel. Moreover, the soft saddle also adds to the comfort.

Fiido M1 – Brakes

Brakes are a disappointment; it has crappy and noisy metal disc brakes that are not up to par. So, I changed the brakes with Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes, which are significantly better and noiseless.

Fiido M1 – Safety

Other than brakes, we have incredible safety features for a night ride. We have a stylish and bright headlight and a rear reflector moreover; we also get a horn.

Fiido M1 – Portability

The bike is very portable if you can carry 25kg. The foldable dimensions of the bike are 79cm x 96cm x 45cm, which can easily fit inside the trunk.

Fiido M1 – Battery

Fiido M1 is featuring a solid 36V or 450WH removable Lithium-ion battery. On paper, the range is around 100km, but the results were somewhere between 20km to 60km in our test.

The charging time is a lot; it takes 9 hours to juice up.

Drawbacks

Fiido M1 is an excellent bike at a relatively affordable price with many flagship features, but some features are not as good as they have to be. Below are some drawbacks that Fiido can enhance in their next generation.

1. No cruise control.
2. Weak front fork.
3. Some parts are fragile.
4. Power assist mode doesn’t appear to do anything.
5. Heavy

Conclusion

M1 is a great fat tire electric bike with exceptional range, decent speed, nighttime safety, comfortable and solid body. But there are weak spots like derailer and brakes which can be upgraded for 120$.

So, if you are willing to get the Matebike X experience at half the price with a few upgrades, this bike is for you.
